Where backups go — and who holds them
Automated backup to your own cloud — scheduled daily, weekly or on close, written to your Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox sync folder — or any local or network path, with one-click restore. We never hold a copy, so the storage is yours and there is nothing to meter.
There is no AlphaTill storage service. The app writes a backup file to a folder on your machine — your Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox sync folder — or any local or network path. If that folder belongs to a cloud client, that client syncs it under your own account. We never receive it, cannot read it, and have nothing to bill you for.
Because the backup is a copy of your database and AlphaTill does not encrypt it, treat the destination folder as sensitive. Full-disk encryption (BitLocker) protects it at rest on the PC; your cloud provider’s account security protects the synced copy. See Security.
Turn on automatic backups
- 1Open Settings → Backup & Restore → Settings.
- 2Turn on Enable automatic backups (on by default).
- 3Choose a schedule: Daily (2:00 AM), Weekly (Sunday) or On App Close. A till that is switched off overnight should use “On App Close”.
- 4Set the backup folder. To use your own cloud, choose Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox and point it at that provider’s local sync folder — for example
C:\Users\[YourName]\OneDrive\AlphaTill Backups. “Custom / Network path” works for a NAS or a mapped drive.
What gets copied, and how much is kept

Make one right now
Settings → Backup & Restore → Backups, optionally type a label such as before-update, then Create Backup. The Quick Backup tab walks the same job in three steps if you want to choose modules explicitly.
Always take one before a version update or a bulk import.
Restoring
- 1Find the backup in the list — each row shows its date and size.
- 2Click Restore and confirm.
- 3A safety copy of the current database is taken first (on by default — leave it on), so a restore of the wrong file is recoverable.
- 4Restart AlphaTill when it tells you to. The restored data is live after the restart.
Restoring replaces the current database. Anything entered since that backup was taken is gone unless you restore the safety copy instead.
Which plans include this
Solo: manual export. Automated scheduled backups are included on every paid plan, and on a perpetual licence too — with the same schedule, keep-count and retention options on every one of them. Since the storage is yours, running it costs us nothing, so there is nothing to meter and no reason to withhold it — see pricing.
Manual export is available on every plan, including the free Solo edition. You can always get your data out.
