The seven steps
- 1Welcome — nothing to enter.
- 2Business Type — pick the Business Pack that matches your trade. This sets the vocabulary and starting categories (see below).
- 3Company — business name (required), plus address, phone and email. These appear on receipts and can be changed later in Settings.
- 4Admin Account — first and last name, email, and a password of at least six characters, entered twice. This becomes the Super Admin.
- 5Deployment — Standalone (this PC only) or Networked (this PC serves other tills). Networked creates more roles: Admin, Manager, Cashier, Accountant and Inventory Manager, where standalone creates Admin and Cashier only.
- 6Almost done — optionally load sample data to explore the system before entering your own.
- 7Done — go to login.
Save the recovery codes
When setup finishes, AlphaTill shows ten recovery codes and will not continue until you confirm you have saved them. They are shown once: only hashes are stored, so nobody — including us — can show them to you again.
Print them or write them down before clicking through. On an offline install they are the only way back into the Super Admin account if the password is lost.
If the app cannot reach our servers during setup, it says so and continues anyway: setup completes offline and the codes are generated locally. You can retry the server registration later from the banner it leaves behind.
Choosing a Business Pack
A pack changes the words the app uses and the categories it starts with — a restaurant sees Menu Items, Tickets and Tables; an auto parts shop sees Parts, Work Orders and Part Number instead of SKU. The underlying features are identical.
